Senior Homeless Programs |
- Community Nursing Program: Licensed nurses and graduate nursing students provide free health screenings and other medical services. Working with homeless and at risk seniors at the Center, the nurses also visit isolated elders with mobility issues. Nurses also accompany seniors to doctor appointments.
- Money Management: St. Mary’s Center acts as a representative payee for over 117 seniors helping to ensure bills are paid on time to reduce the risk of issues that lead to homelessness—evictions, bankruptcy, etc. Services also include help with budget planning and benefit advocacy.
- Senior Drop-in Center: Seniors enjoy coffee and pastry, share stories, play games or watch television. Open 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.
- Recovery 55: A daily senior outpatient program for seniors with mental illness and alcohol and drug addiction issues.
- Senior Homeless Case Management: Help to find housing, secure income, link to health services and other basic needs for homeless seniors. This program helped 467 seniors last year.
- Winter Shelter: Provides shelter, food, and support to 25 seniors each night from December to May.
- Anger Management:Taming Our Emotions is a class specifically designed for clients with substance abuse and mental health issues. The class helps individuals identify events that trigger anger, recognize the cues and warning signs and develop anger management (cognitive behavioral) strategies in response to the event and cues.
